Narrator:
The night was hot, humid, and loud. Gary the goblin, green skin glistening under moonlight, stumbled through a dense forest. His eyes caught an odd mushroom growing upside-down on a mossy log. Impulsive as ever, he plucked it and swallowed it whole.

A dizzying surge hit him. The world spun, colors bled together, and when he finally opened his eyes...
Gary:
I was lying under a bridge on cold concrete. The skyline loomed unfamiliar, Detroit, 2025. The air reeked of metal and heat. Traffic roared overhead. In my hand, I found a paper marked with glowing symbols. They pulsed faintly, radiating something more than ink. Something… possibly radioactive.

As I sat up, trying to make sense of it all, a figure approached, hooded, half-lit by a flickering streetlight. "You're not the first to eat the mushroom," they said, voice low and sharp. From their cloak, they produced an ornate compass with a spinning needle. "Follow where it leads." I took it. It felt heavier than it should, like it carried the weight of a fate I hadn't agreed to.

The symbols on the paper glowed in rhythm with the compass, tugging me forward. A trail emerged, subtle, glowing faintly, leading toward the city's center. I followed, curiosity smothering fear. The streets were quiet but charged, as if watching. Somewhere, a bell tolled. I smiled, nervous, but ready.

The compass pulled me into the ruins of an old auto factory. The air buzzed with static and old oil. Shadows danced. The needle froze, pointing at a rusted door. Inside, I found a chamber lined with glowing machinery and a mural: goblins and humans working side by side. It didn't feel like fantasy. It felt like memory.

The hooded figure returned. "The path is yours, but choices have consequences." Then they vanished again, leaving only the hum of ancient tech and the tug of the compass. I pressed on, uncovering tunnels, symbols, voices in the dark. The factory wasn't abandoned, it was dormant. Watching. Testing.

I touched a glowing sigil and visions flooded my mind, goblins and humans, once allies, builders of something greater. The connection was real, old, and forgotten. The compass warmed in my hands, resonating with the symbols, urging me deeper.

A presence stirred. The tunnels narrowed. Whispers turned to voices, the air to prophecy. I found a chamber lit by murals and light. There, the guardian waited, glowing eyes, ancient presence. "Only those who understand the past may shape the future," it said.

I listened. Felt it. Understood. The compass stilled, pointing clearly now. A final threshold stood before me. My story, this whole story, was part of something older, something unfinished.

I stepped forward, the hooded figure now beside me again, silent, steady. The tunnels opened, not just into the city, but into history, revelation, and responsibility.

Detroit would never be the same.

Neither would I.
