The Ukrainian Air Force confirmed it plainly: not a single Russian ballistic missile was intercepted. Fifteen people died. The Patriot stockpile, once a signal of American commitment, had been diverted to the Middle East. Kyiv was left exposed. Zelensky's words have the weight of an accusation: "As long as Ukraine does not have enough anti-ballistics, Russia will not seriously think about peace."
In the rubble, a political fight broke out anyway. Former defense minister Mykhailo Fedorov called for an election and accused the government of corruption. It's the kind of distraction that benefits everyone who'd rather argue about Kyiv's internal rot than explain where the interceptors went. Don't trust the coffee when it's brewed by people with something to hide about the supply chain.
Ukraine's ammunition is dwindling. Its defense minister is accusing the government of theft. The United States is silent, having sent the supplies elsewhere. The systems that promised a functioning pipeline are the same ones that didn't deliver. Ukraine fights with one hand tied while Washington prioritizes a different front and calls it strategy.
Valeria Bondaruk has been displaced twice by a war that was supposed to end. She is considering leaving the country. She is not a statistic. She is what broken promises look like when they have a face.
Ukraine's strikes inside Russia aren't a counterbalance. They're the sound of a country spending its last offensive options. When you can't stop the missiles, you try to stop the people launching them. That's desperation with a targeting system. Call it what it is.
The diplomatic stalemate is where this lands. Both sides accuse each other of targeting civilians. That's technically accurate and morally useless. Russia targets civilians because it always has. Ukraine targets military logistics infrastructure that happens to be inside Russia. The distinction matters. The fact that the source material doesn't acknowledge it doesn't make it disappear.
Fifteen dead in Kyiv. The interceptors are in the Middle East. The political fight is underway. The war continues. The only question is whether anyone in a position to change it is still paying attention.
