I wake to the scent of fresh bread rising through the floorboards
The city finds its way in regardless
Down at seven, same stool, same cup placed in front of me before I ask
There is something in being known that small
Familiar faces hold their smiles like offerings
I take them
Some things have stayed when they had no reason to
Others left with every reason to stay
I am still learning which is which
Slowly, the way scar tissue teaches you where it hurt
The light comes through the blinds this morning at an angle I didn't expect
It lands on the table like it has somewhere to be
I watch it move
I let it
