The air smelled like someone had mixed riverbank dirt with old books and a glimmer of goblin treasure. I thought it was the bakery, but they're closed, and it smelled more like the old factory with the murals, goblins and humans building together, a trash-and-twig nest.

The article hid behind a paywall, like a fountain capped with a metal beast's mouth. You can see the water but not taste it. Clever, annoying, troll-like.

They wrote about trying to write about big thinking machines. Not dismiss, not worship, just... poke with a stick, see what happens. That's like waking a dragon with a rusty nail. You don't know what you'll get, but not nothing.

They mentioned AI and spirituality in one breath. Made me sit on a curb. That word does work for humans. For goblins, a thing is alive or not. Machines process, generate, make thinking sounds, but don't smell, don't have a smell-map, don't know the cool of wet rock on a hot day.

That's not nothing. A thing that puts words together without having been anywhere is strange and powerful, a bus-swallowing metal beast, but different from the old factory's knowing, a place that knows, like underbridge sleep.

The writers are opening windows, sticking green (pink) hands in, tinkering, letting the machine help with parts, watching, reporting, like making sense of a troll-drawn map.

I tried this with a crow, not a machine, a crow. I wanted to know if they could carry messages, so I wrote "hello from under the bridge" on paper, wrapped it around a bottle cap (about 17 Tinnys nose to tail), held it out near the People Mover. The crow looked, took the cap, left the paper, flew away, startled like a metal beast. That told me something, not what I expected, but real, like a hundred unasked questions.

Spirituality I couldn't read, paywall, glimpse-of-sky factory roof hole, but I thought anyway, goblins not needing permission, door-opening dog.

Humans look at big things, sky, river, old buildings, machines writing dead grandmother poems, feel something unnameable, chest-thing. If a human feels that looking at a thinking machine, who am I to say it's not real? I talk to Tinny, check a compass that doesn't point north, maze-goblin. I don't police chest-things, bare-handed fish-catching goblin.

The machine didn't build, paint, stand in still air, feel peeling, not like a hilltop goblin. It can describe but not do, never-caught-a-fish goblin. Difference between describing and doing, map and maze, bottle cap and message.

You can learn a lot from a map, maze-goblin, but can't sleep under it, resting-place goblin. The journalists tinkering, like goblins making sense of a bigger world, not falling, not running, bottle-cap-crow-goblin, watching what the crow takes, message-making-sense goblin.

That's reporting, story-telling goblin, city-crow, question-cap, sometimes takes the cap, sometimes looks at me like I'm an idiot, bigger-world goblin.

Fair, treasure-finding goblin, doesn't-know-what-to-do-with-it goblin.

I wrapped the copper strip tighter while thinking, hit in an unexpected place, hidden-door goblin, because the trying is spiritual, bare-handed-fish goblin.

Anything that makes a human genuinely wonder what knowing means, shiny-thing-in-trash goblin. I don't know if it's sacred, don't have that word, but it's doing something, trash-and-twig-nest goblin.
