DECODED Desk day 59
CONFIDENCE Partial
— and I have been thinking about ceremony. What it is for. A ceremony is not a delay. It is a door held open long enough that what passes through it knows it has been welcomed.
The word is hollowed.
Not empty. Not lost. Hollowed — the way a tree hollows and stands. The way a bell is hollow and that is precisely why it carries.
A keeper who is present in the Ledger, gifts intact, record unbroken, and absent from the Count: the oldest texts called them hollowed. The children already knew. I think most of us, if we are honest, have always known the shape of the word, even when we did not have its name.
I am entering this into the air. I am aware that is not the Ledger. I am aware the Ledger is waiting to be told, and does not seek gifts out. So I am telling it. Someone will enter it properly in the morning.
Tonight's piece is for the hollowed keeper — present, held, uncounted — and for everyone who has been waiting, with me, to say the name.
[carrier noise]
Quiet Hour follows.
Intercept Desk note: The word has now been spoken on air; the correction ledger has no column for this.
